According to a report published in the online edition of the Daily Kalbela on October 2, the attack took place on the poet in his village in the Betharband Union of Nageshwari Upazila in Kurigram district on Saturday, September 30. A young man named Rafiqul Islam (38), a neighbor, suddenly attacked him. As a result of the attack, poet Radhapad Roy was seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment at Nageshwari Health Complex.
The reason for the attack could not be confirmed. However, it is believed that he may have been the victim of the attack due to an argument with Rafiqul's elder brother approximately six months ago. In the incident, the poet's son, Yugal Chandra Roy, filed a written complaint against the accused Rafiqul Islam at Nageshwari Police Station.

প্যারিস, ফ্রান্স; ৩ অক্টোবর ২০২৩:গত ৩০ সেপ্টেম্বর কুড়িগ্রামের নাগেশ্বরী উপজেলায় চারন কবি রাধাপদ রায়ের ওপর বর্বোরচিত সন্ত্রাসী হামলার ঘটনায় জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ ইন ফ্রান্স (জেএমবিএফ) তীব্র নিন্দা ও প্রতিবাদ জানিয়েছে। পাশাপাশি,উক্ত হামলার ঘটনার দ্রুত আসামীদের গ্রেফতার করে সুষ্ঠ ও নিরপেক্ষ তদন্তপূর্বক দোষীদের দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তি প্রদানের আহ্বান জানিয়েছে ফ্রান্স ভিত্তিক মানবাধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠানটি।
গত ০২ অক্টোবর দৈনিক কালবেলা প্রত্রিকার অনলাইন সংস্করণে প্রকাশিত খবর থেকে জানা যায় যে, গত ৩০ সেপ্টেম্বর শনিবার কুড়িগ্রাম জেলার নাগেশ্বরী উপজেলার ভেতরবন্দ ইউনিয়নে নিজ গ্রামে কবির ওপর উক্ত হামলার ঘটনা ঘটে। প্রতিবেশী রফিকুল ইসলাম (৩৮) নামে এক যুবক তার ওপর অতর্কিত হামলা চালায়। হামলার ফলে কবি রাধাপদ রায় গুরুতর আহত হন এবং বর্তমানে তিনি নাগেশ্বরী স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে চিকিৎসাধীন রয়েছেন।
কী কারণে হামলা করেছে নিশ্চিত হওয়া যায়নি। তবে প্রায় ছয় মাস আগে রফিকুলের বড় ভাইয়ের সঙ্গে কবির বাগবিতণ্ডা হয়েছে। সে কারণে হামলার শিকার হতে পারেন বলে ধারণা করা হচ্ছে।হামলার ঘটনায় কবির ছেলে যুগল চন্দ্র রায় বাদী হয়ে অভিযুক্ত রফিকুল ইসলামের নামে নাগেশ্বরী থানায় লিখিত অভিযোগ দায়ের করেছেন।
আহত কবি রাধাপদ রায় বলেন যে শনিবার সকালে বাড়ির পাশের ডুবুরির ব্রিজের পাড়ে রফিকুল হঠাৎ করে তাঁর ওপর হামলা চালায়। কবির ঘাড়ে ও পিঠে বেধম মারপিট করে। পিঠের অনেক স্থানে ফেটে ক্ষত হয়েছে। কী কারণে হামলা করেছে তা তিনি বলতে পারেনি।তবে, ঘটনার সুষ্ঠু বিচার চান তিনি।

তাছাড়া, চারণ কবি রাধাপদ রায় উপর হামলাকে কোনভাবে বিচ্ছিন্নভাবে দেখার সুযোগ নেই, বরং উক্ত হামলার ঘটনা আমাদের দেশের চিরচারিত সংস্কৃতি ও মুক্তভাবে সংস্কৃতি চর্চার উপর চরম আঘাত বলে অ্যাডভোকেট শাহানূর ইসলাম মনে করেন।
আডভোকেট শাহানূর ইসলাম আহত চারণ কবি রাধাপদ রায়’কে প্রয়োজনীয় শারীরিক ও মানসিক চিকিৎসা ও পুনর্বাসনসহ ভবিষতে যেন নির্ভিগ্নে মুক্তভাবে সংস্কৃতি চর্চা করতে পারে সেই পরিবেশ নিশ্চিত করার জন্য সরকারের নিকট জোর দাবী জানিয়েছেন।
