The Bangladeshi human rights organization JusticeMakers Bangladesh has expressed deep concern, condemnation and protest over the vandalism of idols of 14 Hindu temples in three unions of Baliadangi Upazila of Thakurgaon district.
At the same time, JusticeMakers Bangladesh has called upon to give the exemplary punishment to the alleged accused in a fair trial after identify those responsible before an impartial investigation by the formation of a judicial prob committee.
The human rights organization JusticeMakers Bangladesh believes that the vandalism of the idols of fourteen temples in Thakurgaon by unknown miscreants is a direct threat to the basic human rights of citizens of all religions in Bangladesh, such as the right to freely practice their religion.
According to the news published in various newspapers and information obtained from reliable sources, miscreants vandalized the idols of 14 temples in three unions of Baliadangi Upazila of Thakurgaon on early morning of 05 February 2023. At some time on Sunday early morning, 9 idols of temples were vandalized in Dhantala Union, 1 in Charol Union and 4 in Paria Union.
Among them, Takahara from Sindurpindi in Dhantala union vandalized the idols of one in Harivasar temple, one in Krishna Thakur temple, five in Mansa temples, one in Lakshmi temple and one in Kali temple.
Also, one idols of Kali temple in Charol union and one in Bura-Buri temple, one in Lakshmi temple, one in Amati temple and one in Masanmath temple in Paria union were vandalized.
At that time, the miscreants broke the arms, legs and heads of the idols. Some idols were broken and left in the water of the pond. People of the religious minority Hindu community of that area are in a state of panic as someone vandalized the idols suddenly in the dark of night.
Founder Secretary General of JusticeMakers Bangladesh and prominent human rights defender in Bangladesh Advocate Shahanur Islam has called to take appropriate measures to ensure the environment in which the minority hindu community of the area can practice their religion without any fear in the future, including the reconstruction and restoration of the damaged temples and idols.
Advocate Shahanur Islam also mentioned that in the past, violence against religious minorities in various parts of the country has been found to be the involvement of government and political parties of opposing ideologies in most cases and the incidents of violence against religious minorities are not decreasing due to the fact that those who are actually responsible for those incidents are not identified and punished.
Therefore, Advocate Shahanur Islam strongly demanded that the real accused involved in the said incident should be quickly identified and arrested and handed over to trial and be given exemplary punishment.
Above all, Advocate Shahanur Islam urged the administration to be careful not to harass innocent people due to political revenge in the said incident and to ensure the safety of the lives of the minorities and to ensure the freedom of the minorities to practice their religion enacting minority rights protection law.

অজ্ঞাতনামা দূর্বৃত্ত কর্তৃক ঠাকুরগাঁও এ চৌদ্দটি মন্দিরের প্রতিমা ভাঙচুরের ঘটনা বাংলাদেশের সকল ধর্মের নাগরিকের স্বাধীনভাবে ধর্ম পালনের অধিকারের মত মৌলিক মানবাধিকারের ওপর সরাসরি হুমকি বলে মানবাধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠান জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ মনে করে।
বিভিন্ন পত্রিকায় প্রকাশিত খবর ও নির্ভরযোগ্য সুত্রে প্রাপ্ত তথ্যে জানা যায় যে, গত ইংরেজী ০৪ ফেব্রুয়ারী ২০২৩ তারিখ দিবাগত রাতে ঠাকুরগাঁওয়ের বালিয়াডাঙ্গী উপজেলার তিনটি ইউনিয়নে ১৪টি মন্দিরের প্রতিমা ভাংচুর করেছে দূর্বৃত্তরা। রবিবার ভোর রাতের কোনো এক সময় উপজেলার ধনতলাইউনিয়নে ৯টি, চাড়োল ইউনিয়নে ১টি ও পাড়িয়া ইউনিয়নে ৪টি মন্দিরের প্রতিমা ভাংচুরের ঘটনা ঘটেছে।
সেগুলোর মধ্যে ধনতলা ইউনিয়নের সিন্দুরপিন্ডি থেকে টাকাহারা একটি হরিবাসর মন্দির, একটি কৃষ্ণঠাকুর মন্দির, পাঁচটি মনসা মন্দির , একটি লক্ষ্মীমন্দির ও একটি কালি মন্দিরের প্রতিমা ভাংচুর করেছে।
এছাড়াও চাড়োল ইউনিয়নে একটি কালী মন্দির ও পাড়িয়া ইউনিয়নে একটি বুড়া-বুড়ি মন্দির, একটি লক্ষ্মী মন্দির, একটি আমাতি মন্দির ও একটি মাসানমাঠ মন্দিরের প্রতিমাগুলো ভাংচুর করা হয়েছে।
সেসময় দূর্বৃত্তরা প্রতিমাগুলোর হাত-পা, মাথা ভেঙে চূর্ণবিচূর্ণ করে ফেলেছে। আবার কিছু প্রতিমা ভেঙে পুকুরের পানিতে ফেলে রেখেছে। হঠাৎ করে কে বা কাহারা রাতের আঁধারে প্রতিমাগুলো ভাংচুর করায় এলাকার ধর্মীয় সংখ্যালঘু হিন্দু সম্প্রদায়ের ব্যক্তিরা আতঙ্কগ্রস্ত অবস্থায় রয়েছে।
পাশাপাশি ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ মন্দির ও প্রতিমা পূনঃনির্মান ও পূনঃস্থাপনসহ ভবিষ্যতে যেন এলাকার সংখ্যালঘু হিন্দু সম্প্রদায় কোন প্রকার ভয় ভীতি ছাড়া নির্বিঘ্নে তাদের ধর্ম পালন করতে পারে সেই পরিবেশের নিশ্চয়তার প্রদানের জন্য উপযুক্ত ব্যবস্থা গ্রহনের আহবান জানিয়েছে অ্যাডভোকেট শাহানূর ইসলাম।
জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ এর প্রতিষ্টাতা মহাসচিব ও বিশিষ্ট মানবাধিকার আইনজীবী অ্যাডভোকেট শাহানূর ইসলাম স্বাক্ষরিত বিবৃতিতে উল্লেখ করেন যে, অতীতে বিভিন্ন সময় দেশের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় ধর্মীয় সংখ্যালঘুদের উপর সংঘঠিত সহিংসতায় অধিকাংশ ক্ষেত্রে সরকার ও বিরোধী মতাদর্শের রাজনৈতিক দলের নেতাকর্মীদের সংশ্লিষ্টতা পাওয়া গেছে।
তাছাড়া, সেইসব ঘটনায় প্রকৃত দায়ী ব্যক্তিদের চিহ্নিতপূর্বক বিচারে দৃষ্ঠান্তমূলক শাস্তি প্রদান না করায় ধর্মীয় সংখ্যালঘুদের উপর সহিংসতার ঘটনা কমছে না। তাই, উক্ত ঘটনার সাথে জড়িত প্রকৃত অভিযুক্তদের দ্রুত চিহ্নিত পূর্বক গ্রেফতার করে বিচারে সোপর্দ করে দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তি প্রদানের জোর দাবী জানিয়েছেন অ্যাডভোকেট শাহানূর ইসলাম।
সর্বপরি, অ্যাডভোকেট শাহানূর ইসলাম উক্ত ন্যাক্কারজনক ঘটনায় রাজনৈতিক প্রতিহিংসাবশত নিরীহ মানুষকে যেন হয়রানি না করা হয়, সে বিষয়েও প্রশাসনকে সতর্ক থাকার এবং সংখ্যালঘুদের স্বাধীনভাবে ধর্ম পালনের নিশ্চয়তা সহ জান মালের নিরাপত্তা বিধানের জন্য দ্রুত সংখ্যালঘু সুরক্ষা আইন প্রণয়ন ও বাস্তবায়নের জোড় দাবী জানিয়েছেন।
