According to information received from reliable sources including news published on different newspaper in Bangladesh, it is learned that a first year student has been beaten up mercilessly, captured a video after taking her clothes off, harassed her and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone by Bangladesh Chhatra League activists in a residential hall of Islamic University, Kustia on 12 February late night to 13 February early morning 2023.
The victim alleged that BCL vice president Sanjida
Chowdhury summoned her to a Gana Room at around 11:00pm on 12 February and five
to six students then harassed her in various ways till 3:30am of early 13
February 2023.
They verbally abused her and torture her
physically. They slapped and punched her. At one point of torture, a student
present captured her video. They even took her clothes off. The other general
students present at the Gana Room did not protest. They threatened her while
capturing the video. They warned to publish the video and make it viral if she
disclosed the incident to anyone.
Fonder Secretary General of JusticeMakers
Bangladesh and eminent human rights lawyer Shahanur Islam is aggrieved about
the aforesaid incident and has expressed his grave condemnation and protest
against the sexual harassment, torture and death threats on Islamic university
students by the leader of ruling party’s student wing.
Mr. Islam thinks that the harassment of any
student, regardless of their background or affiliation, is completely
unacceptable and goes against the fundamental values of a safe and inclusive
learning environment. He also thinks that the recent incident of harassment of
an Islamic University student by a Student League leader is deeply concerning
and should be thoroughly investigated.
Beside this, Mr. Islam thinks that all students
have the right to feel safe and respected on their campuses, and it is the
responsibility of university officials to ensure that and it is crucial that
appropriate measures are taken to address any instances of harassment, and that
those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
JusticeMakrs Bangladesh also stands in solidarity
with the victim and all students who have been subjected to harassment or
discrimination. Furthermore, it urges university officials to take immediate
action to investigate this incident, provide support to the victim, and take
steps to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
Finally, JusticeMakers Bangladesh calls on all students to reject any form of harassment, discrimination, or violence, and to work together to create a safe and inclusive environment for all and also urges to embrace diversity and respect each other's differences, and promote a culture of mutual understanding and compassion in all universities and communities.

পাশাপাশি, জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ বিচার বিভাগীয় তদন্ত কমিটি গঠন পূর্বক দ্রুত ও নিরপেক্ষ তদন্ত করে অভিযুক্ত অপরাধীকে খুঁজে বের বিচারে দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তি প্রদানের জন্য সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষের প্রতি আহ্বান জানিয়েছে।
বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন পত্রিকায় প্রকাশিত সংবাদসহ নির্ভরযোগ্য সূত্র থেকে প্রাপ্ত তথ্যে জানা যায়, গত ১২ ফেব্রুয়ারি গভীর রাত থেকে ১৩ ফেব্রুয়ারি ভোররাত পর্যন্ত ইসলামী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, কুষ্টিয়ার একটি আবাসিক হলে বাংলাদেশ ছাত্রলীগের কর্মীরা প্রথম বর্ষের এক ছাত্রীকে নির্দয়ভাবে মারধর, পরনের পোশাক খুলে ভিডিও ধারণ এবং তাকে হয়রানির করার বিষয় কারো নিকট প্রকাশ করলে তাকে হত্যা করা হবে এবং ধারণকৃত ভিডিও বিভিন্ন মাধ্যমে ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার হুমকি প্রদান করা হয়েছে।
ভুক্তভোগীর অভিযোগ, ইসলামী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, কুষ্টিয়ার ছাত্রলীগ সহ-সভাপতি সানজিদা চৌধুরী তাকে ১২ ফেব্রুয়ারি রাত ১১টার দিকে একটি গণরুমে ডেকে নিয়ে যায় এবং সে সহ তার অনুসারী পাঁচ থেকে ছয়জন শিক্ষার্থী ১৩ ফেব্রুয়ারি ভোর রাত সাড়ে ৩টা পর্যন্ত তাকে বিভিন্নভাবে হয়রানি করে।
তারা তাকে অকথ্য ভাষায় গালিগালাজ ও শারীরিক নির্যাতন করে। তারা তাকে চড় ও ঘুষি মারে। নির্যাতনের এক পর্যায়ে উপস্থিত এক ছাত্রী তার ভিডিও ধারণ করে। এমনকি তারা তার কাপড়ও খুলে ফেলে। গণকক্ষে উপস্থিত অন্য সাধারণ শিক্ষার্থীরা কোনো প্রতিবাদ করেননি। ভিডিওটি ধারণ করার সময় তারা তাকে হুমকি দিয়ে বলে যে, ঘটনাটি কাউকে জানালে ভিডিওটি প্রকাশ করে ভাইরাল করার হুঁশিয়ারি দেয় তারা।
জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা মহাসচিব ও বিশিষ্ট মানবাধিকার আইনজীবী শাহানুর ইসলাম ক্ষমতাসীন দলের ছাত্র সংগঠনের নেতা কর্তৃক ইসলামী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীর উপর যৌন হয়রানি, নির্যাতন ভিডিও ধারণ ও প্রাণনাশের হুমকি প্রদানের তীব্র নিন্দা ও প্রতিবাদ জানিয়েছেন।
অ্যাডভোকেট ইসলাম মনে করেন যে, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে কোনো শিক্ষার্থীকে হয়রানি কখনো কোণ অবস্থায় গ্রহণযোগ্য নয় এবং এইরূপ ঘটনা একটি নিরাপদ ও অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক শিক্ষার পরিবেশের মৌলিক মূল্যবোধের পরিপন্থী। তিনি আরও মনে করেন যে, সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে ছাত্লীগ নেতা কর্তৃক ইসলামী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্রীকে হয়রানির ঘটনা গভীরভাবে উদ্বেগজনক এবং এর পুঙ্খানুপুঙ্খ তদন্ত হওয়া উচিত।
পাশাপাশি, অ্যাডভোকেট ইসলাম মনে করেন যে, সকল শিক্ষার্থীরা তাদের ক্যাম্পাসে নিরাপদ এবং মর্যাদা নিয়ে লেখাপড়া করার অধিকার রয়েছে এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কর্তৃপক্ষের তা নিশ্চিত করা দায়িত্ব। সকল প্রকার হয়রানির ঘটনা মোকাবেলায় যথাযথ ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া এবং দায়ী ব্যক্তিরা তাদের কর্মের জন্য দায়বদ্ধ করা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কর্তৃপক্ষের অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দায়িত্ব। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কর্তৃপক্ষ যা কোন ভাবেই এডিয়ে যেতে পারে না।
জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ হয়রানি বা বৈষম্যের শিকার সকল ছাত্র-ছাত্রীর প্রতি সংহতি প্রকাশ করেছে। অধিকন্তু, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কর্তৃপক্ষকে এই ঘটনার নিরপেক্ষে তদন্ত করার জন্য অবিলম্বে পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ, ভুক্তভোগী ছাত্রীওকে শারীরিওন ও মানসিক সহায়তা প্রদান এবং ভবিষ্যতে এই ধরনের ঘটনা যাতে ঘটতে না পারে সেজন্য কার্যকর পদক্ষেপ নেওয়ার আহ্বান জানিয়েছ।
পরিশেষে, জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের প্রতি হয়রানি, বৈষম্য বা সহিংসতা বন্ধ করে সকলের জন্য একটি নিরাপদ ও অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক পরিবেশ তৈরি করতে একসাথে কাজ করার আহ্বান জানিয়েছে। একইসাথে সকল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পারস্পরিক বোঝাপড়া এবং সহানুভূতির মাধ্যমে বৈচিত্র্যকে আলিঙ্গন করে একে অপরকে সম্মান করার সংস্কৃতি চর্চা করার আহ্বান জানিয়েছে।
